be attended to. I asked him what the amah was brought up for,

and he said because she would identify me with reference to char-

ges made against me in respect of the woman Mr. Xavler kept.

Witness was then asked as to my character by the Chair-

man, and said he would rather not answer that question, as he had

only been in the Department for six months. During that time,

however, the inspector had given every satisfaction.
